Prologue-Sky
Sheets of rain rocketed to the ground flanked by thick threads of lighting. Thunder broadcasted a soundtrack of its own flavor of ambient noise through a throng of trees doing Pilate moves…bending, swaying, wrapping.
Tolui Ballentine brought a bottle of Chardonnay to her naked lips and curved the full pair around the tip. Her phone rang for the twentieth time but, she had ignored the string of calls. It had been a year ago today that she finally accepted the loss of the love of her life.
She tossed a coarse strain of her reddish brown hair behind her ears and washed the Neutrogena away, applied a quarter sized dab of Ambi Even and Clear moisturizer to her velvety brown skin in a circular motion., then drew a half breath. It was this ritual that always brought her to tell herself, “What a waste,”… and it was. Tolui was an extremely beautiful woman who had not allowed herself to date since she lost her husband to the network of war and terror.
She she stood. Long flawless, shapely legs extended from an ample rear rooted in firmness, and book cased between parentasies encased hips.
When a wailing sound warped over to her ears, she rushed to her naked feet, shot down the hall a short distance and peered in at Skylar. The whooping toddler was standing straight up in his crib making his regular early morning demand. He wanted out. She laughed. At one and a half, he was clearly running her household most days. By the time Tolui got Skylar dressed, fed and settled, she was ready to return several of the calls she’d allowed to go straight to voicemail. A total of eleven phone calls later, Tolui had been consoled. Others had remembered her loss.
Tolui allowed her body to fall backwards on the bed, stretched out, then into herself as she followed her thoughts down the detour that changed her life so dramatically..forever.
